In this video, we compare Decent's new Bengle espresso machine with the well-loved DE1.

Schedule update: we're running about 2 months behind, with the public beta to be ready in the next 2 weeks, and v1.0 for sale toward the end of November.

Both machines make the same high-quality espresso and run the same tablet app. But Bengle adds a number of refinements, conveniences, and design upgrades.

Here's a detailed look at the differences:

Built-in scale
  • Bengle: Scale integrated into drip tray.
  • DE1: Requires a separate Bluetooth scale placed on top.
Pump technology & water flow
  • DE1: Large piston movements, more audible, slightly splashy flow.
  • Bengle: High-frequency micro-movements, smoother flow, ~50% faster peak water output.
Cup warmer & storage
  • Bengle: Heated cup warmer for up to 25 cups, thermostat controlled.
  • DE1: Cool top surface, not usable for cup storage.
Milk steaming & thermometer
  • Bengle: Built-in thermometer in the steam wand, plus commercial-grade steam power (as fast as 14s for a latte on 240V).
  • DE1: Requires external milk thermometer; slower steaming times.
Tablet & interface
  • DE1: 8-inch, 1280×800 tablet, USB-A charging.
  • Bengle: 11-inch Samsung tablet, 1080p, dual USB-C charging ports.
Warm-up time
  • DE1: ~4.5 minutes.
  • Bengle: ~2 minutes.
Water tank & refilling
  • DE1: Porcelain tank, heavier, requires lever + back access.
  • Bengle: Enamel-coated stainless tank, lighter, easier front access with integrated lid.
Handles & finishes
  • DE1: Black resin “piano key” handles.
  • Bengle: Oak handles (or sculptural options on special models).
Steam wand & safety
  • DE1: Metal tip and ball joint get hot; more cleaning required.
  • Bengle: PPS plastic tip stays cool, easier to clean; direct boiler-to-tip design removes burn risk and boosts efficiency.
Adjustable feet
  • DE1: Fixed rubber feet.
  • Bengle: Height-adjustable feet for uneven countertops.
Shot mirror
  • DE1: Plastic mirror, adhesive, replaceable.
  • Bengle: Polished steel mirror, screw-mounted, more durable.
Grouphead & internal parts
  • DE1: Brass grouphead.
  • Bengle: Cast stainless steel grouphead, built-in LED lighting to illuminate espresso as it pours.
Cost
  • Bengle: ~50% more expensive than DE1.
  • DE1: Still the lower-cost entry to the Decent lineup.
Takeaway: Both machines deliver Decent's hallmark precision espresso. Bengle adds higher-end materials, faster steaming, smoother water flow, and a more premium user experience.
