Hey guys, i'm looking to pull together a speciality coffee starter kit and it would be good to know what you'd expect to be included in one with recommendations? Good coffee goes without saying 😃

Seen a lot of these pop up at roasters in response to covid. They seem to be organised by both 'budget' and 'style' - budget self-explanatory, but I think style is less well represented. I don't mean aesthetics, but simply that some people will never think of an aeropress as anything less than a penis pump. Without coffee brewing knowledge, I think conventional buying wisdom means people are going to make "bad" choices - e.g. a chemex is a rough intro to brewing at home, but it's good looking and sits nicely in most kitchens.

If I had to sell everything tomorrow, I'd start again by buying an aeropress, scale and a good hand quality grinder. And I'd be happy for a long time with it, too.

Here's a thing Machina are doing:

Scales

Grinder (ideally available from you, with suggested setting based on provided brew guide).

Filter cone (Melitta, Bartleet, Wilfa pourover, something that utilises papers that can be picked up in a supermarket...or a V60 01 preferably, but 02s can be picked up, with Japanese papers, at Ocado).

Filter papers.

Pourover kettle. (Melitta & Wilfa cones could be used with a regular kettle at a push).

Proven brew guide for 1 mug, that you can use as a diagnostic. (for 2 or 3 cups just repeat the 1 mug recipe). Same grind can be used for large French presses. Basically keep it modular?

Thanks for the feedback. Tricky one as the combinations are endless if you're not careful. Definitely think a brew guide is a nice touch, maybe even a video kit tutorial to put it all into context and see it in action.

Dare I say if I done it all over again I probably would've went straight to my Wilfa Svart grinder, but that blows the budget entry appeal out the water.
