I know the bottom of the throat is smaller in diameter than the top as my 58mm tamper does not go through all the way to the bottom of the throat.

I had my weight made to 55mm seems to do the job

 

@owain how far through the throat does your weight get?

all the way before it becomes like a cone shape?

Position with no beans

It sits on the bottom ridge with no sideways movement

 

What's the purpose of the weight? Mine seems to do fine without it. After a bit of pop corning all the beans do get ground.

 

The jury is out on whether it has a usefulness or not, the theory is It simulates the weight of a full hopper pushing the beans through, some use one some don't. I thought I would try it plus I kind of like the look of it on the counter

For clarity, I don't bother with weight on my Royal. Difference in the cup was undetectable to me.
