Experiences of blind shaking?

Maybe a bit late to this trend but I watched Lance's video on blind shaking (link) causing densification and higher TDS so I have been trying it for the last few weeks.

I have a cheap blind shaker from MHW-3BOMBER and just been having a nightmare time with getting consistent shots.

My grounds are not nicely distributed and end up at one side of the portafilter. I have tried doing a little bit of WDT to get them looking more level, but that doesn't seem to help with consistency.

So has anyone else tried blind shaking and do you have any advice on getting consistency? Anyone got a Weber shaker and find that works well?

How are you distributing the grounds when they’re in the basket? If they all end up on one side then I would be doing a bit of tapping on the sides of the basket to shift them back to the middle and then follow that up with WDT.

I may have the exact same shaker and I agree the distribution from that is not ideal. I use the 3D printed Spiral distibution tool foor 5 twists and my shots are wonderfully consistent. About 5 seconds longer then with spirallling only. I am not able to measure TDS, taste for this coffee (Brazillian) seem noticeably "fuller".
