It looks looks it has boiled dry at some point, run it with a water/ vinegar mix, allow to cool then empty.
Refill with water and bring to temperature, allow to cool, should be OK to brew coffee.

I did the whole vinegar and water.. this is the final stage of cleaning, I can't get rid of the remaining black stuff. So you'd say its good to go now?
