Yep that looks about right. It's one of the reasons I ended up grinding into a ramekin (the other being it sits on my scales which in turn is sitting on another ramekin) & diffusing the clumps with a cocktail stick.

 

I get lots of clumps but mine isnt' that messy. I now grind into a container and stir with a fork to get all the clumps out then spoon into the portafilter.

Now that's an idea. I have a tiny 'condiment???' fork somewhere that may be perfect.

+1 to that - and then give it a good old stir with a cocktail stick or modded whisk or whatever

 

I've modded mine with a bit of acrylic pipe, rubber funnel on top and a weight then single dose into a small stainless cup (same as used to measure beans so you can then weigh once ground) then shake and pour into the pf. Works a treat

But will this sit in place good enough so that when I push the basket holder towards the "release" button it doesn't impede?

Ah no - you'd have to remove the pf holder, hold the pf and funnel against the grinder with one hand and use your other hand to press the little plate in to start grind

Picture as requested haha, moulded some sugru onto the stainless pot so it both wedges in behind the black lip for portafilters and also means the button plate on the mignon won't get scratched up. Funnel is a cut down silicone funnel from amazon and allows me to hit the top so to speak and it blows out retained grinds into the cup. Just like the camera lens hood mod on superjolly's etc.
