I have just got a Magnifica S, by trial and error I tried to find the best settings for the grinder and coffee strength for me (and probably got too much caffeine in my system in the process).
I found right settings around number 3 on the grinder and full strength. I usually make double shot short espresso, but now the grind seems to be too fine as I can hear the pump struggle to get the water through, the sound gets really muffled, the pull starts with couple of drops, then it continues with slow constant stream, this produces good enough espresso for me, with nice tiger stripe crema.
My question is, if these settings can hurt the pump in the long run, as the pump now sounds really muffled and seems to be struggling, just on the edge of what it can do.. or is this normal and the pump can handle it just fine?
Also what is the difference between pulling one short espresso and two short? I thought it is supposed to use double the amount of coffee, but I timed the grinder and it works for 7s for single shot and 9 sec for the double shot.
Also I would like to point out that I am aware that the automatic machine will never produce a supreme espresso, I just like the convenience and want to get the most out of it.
