For the past year or so I've been using Durgol Espresso to descale my Gaggia Classic, purchased in 2012.
Until yesterday this worked fine, but after descaling yesterday no water would come through the group head. Water came through the steam wand. Google suggested that I needed to strip down the three way valve and clean it out. I did that, and water now flows through the group head. Yippee.
But I don't want to have to do that again. So what could I have done wrong in my descaling process? FWIW I back flush about once a fortnight, and descale about twice a year. I live in Leicestershire, so hard water isn't a big problem.
The descaling instructions from Gaggia say to turn steam on during descaling, but Durgol says not to. I followed Durgol's advice. So I had the power and brew switches on, and the descaler came out through the steam wand.
One more thing, Durgol don't suggest how long to leave the descaler in the machine before rinsing it out. Any suggestions?
