  1. ๐Ÿ”Ž Find a Coffeeshop ๐Ÿ”
Hot Numbers Cambridge. Dropped into their Trumpington St. shop today - excellent coffee, knowledgeable & friendly staff. Roast their own. Jazz bands in the evening. Great food fairly pricey, even better coffee very reasonable priced. Great atmosphere - love it.

Well, it turns out that I do love coffee, just not how I make it. Was in Cambridge today & visited Hot Numbers, an excellent little coffee shop. Had a pour over (Ethiopia - Warqee) which was superb followed by an Americano (Kenya Tano Ndogo). These people certainly know how to make coffee...

I assumed that if I wanted 160ml of coffee then that's how much water I should use. However I just tried 185ml/12gm and I let it steep for longer. Wow! That's so strong and bitter (or sour - not sure I know the difference). Not pleasant. As I originally said: maybe I just don't like coffee...

I've got the 500ml dripper - couldn't find a UK source for the smaller one. Water before coffee in dripper? Does that make a difference? I don't have a pouring kettle, I can pour just as consistently with what I have. I prefer hot coffee rather than warm - always have done. If I drink the...

I've tried variations on above, different ratio, diferent beans, different grind. On above method coffee seems far too strong, tar-like. Coffee is nasty and leaves such an unpleasant aftertaste that I need to clean my teeth to get rid of it.

OK, thanks for your advice. Here's how I make an awful coffee: Equipment: Bodium Bistro, Clever Coffee Dripper, Filtropa filter papers Coffee: Ethiopia Kayon Mountain Natural beans from Rave Coffee Mug size: 160ml Water: Volvic Method: Grind beans using either 4th or 5th setting. Ratio...

When I was in Rome last year I had some wondrous coffee at various cafes. When I was last in Paris I had coffee that was a little taste of heaven. Now back in England I seem unable to make a decent coffee. I've tried various methods such as drip (various), French press, aeropress, etc but for...

Very amusing. I was also considering adding: ph of the water, local humidity, psychological profile of taster etc Seriously, if you really think that pour motion, shaking the brewer vs no shaking and pulse or continuous pour is detectable at tasting then I award you the Gilly Goolden Hint of...

Yes, I guess that's true, and I didn't notice a difference between tap & bottled anyway. Tomorrow I start my research - tweak one variable at a time. And who said this wasn't science?

Well, I'm experimenting so I'll try something different next.

Yes, I have noticed that, I think it improves with waiting.

Well, that will be a big surprise for me when I get that sweetness and I look forward to it. Mass hallucination? No, I'm not sufficiently familiar with the coffee world to say that. I do however think that that applies to the wine world and there's evidence to back it up: Frederic Brochettes...

I'm using bottled water: Highland Spring as my water is very hard and as such my kettle is descale regularly.

A 150ml mug size is just right for me. I read of many people using 230ml or above but that's just too much for my tastes. I'm using a size 2 V60 because it came free with a pack I bought & there seems little point changing it. I'm doing all the procedures you suggest but I've never, ever...
