Great answers guys. I now know that these have a name "Panarello wands" and they are specifically designed to create milk foam without the user putting any thought into it whatsoever :-)

I never thought of using bottled mineral water, figured it would be fairly hard too hence the name! Our tap water is very hard and we use a Brita filter, but our kettle still gets scaled up fairly quickly so it might be a better option.

Hiya, I haven't posted here for a long time, but having replaced my now dead Delonghi machine with a rather more expensive Sage machine I can't believe how much better the steam arm is. The main reason for this is it's a one-piece metal pipe, like you get on commercial coffee machines. One...

Hello, Sorry for the long absence; just wanted to say thanks for all the advice here. Fortunately, after a few days my Delonghi stopped dripping and began to behave the way it did before. No harm done! I have since purchased some Baby Puly descaler from Happy Donkey for next time. Cheers!

I don't know if it has a solenoid valve; it's not a very expensive machine (cost around ยฃ100). I think some water must be coming from the brew head after I switch off the pump, so the coffee never has a chance to dry out. It's a problem, not sure what to do now but I'll find the cause at least...

Hi folks, I recently descaled my Delonghi using a product made by Oust (said it was all-purpose and could be used with coffee machines). I followed the instructions in the manual and all seemed well. The machine works fine apart from one thing. After a shot has been pulled, the water used to...

I nipped into my local Starbucks (quite a big one in fact) on the off chance they had tampers amongst their accessories. No such luck; just got a blank look and left empty-handed and feeling like a bit of a bit of an idiot.

Thank you all so much for your advice, this is top notch stuff. Good point; I have noticed fissures appearing when I do this so it makes sense not to. My grinder creates a problem with static cling and the grounds often come out in clumps. The shaking just makes things less messy (Mrs iffy...

Oops, just realised this should be in the Barista Skills forum. Sorry guys, noobs eh?

Ha ha. There should be a self-help group forum here for that!

Hello, This is me pulling a single shot with my Delonghi: If you look at 1:24 you'll notice the coffee comes out fast, but it's got a thick head of crema and it's damn strong when you drink it. Under-extraction isn't something I'm losing any sleep over [groan]. I'd be really interested to...

Thank you all for such a good response and warm welcome. I've deduced that if I want to keep using my existing grinder, I need to use its finest setting. My earlier experiments with this setting led to long extraction times and the result was barely drinkable, but I think this is because I was...

Hi all, Thanks for having me on your forum; looks like a good place to chat about our finest hot water with brown grit in it. I've been shall we say "into coffee" for just a few months, bought my first espresso machine back in October. I did my homework (ish) and bought a Delonghi pump machine...
