  1. Coffee Beans
Prufrock is selling bags from JB, and has them on as its regular espresso at the mo, I think. The flat white I had there today was incredibly tasty.

Interesting to see this thread appear all of a sudden, especially from such a vocal opponent of the machines in the past. I've just decided to buy a Sage DB as a replacement for my Andreja Premium - nothing wrong with that machine, I just like the idea of having much more control over...

You greatly overestimate my DIY skills.

Does anybody know where I can get one of these? Sage doesn't appear to have it available on its website.

I've been getting good results from Rachel's as well. Daylesford Organic's whole milk has produced the best results for me, but it is a) a bugger to source, unless you do your weekly shop from Selfridges and b) bloody expensive.

I've got an Espro tamper - the handle clicks down when you put 30lbs of pressure on it. I found it quite useful when starting out as I got used to consistent tamping pressures. It definitely helped in eliminating one more variable until my tamping technique became second nature.

My Andreja Premium is relatively loud, I'm guessing due to the vibe pump, but it's never done that pulsing thing in your video before.

I was fairly bemused by the whole event, to be honest. I went for the Sunday lunchtime session, and found it remarkably crowded (and HOT - I felt for all the exhibitors at the event, especially those crammed into the room that Londinium was in) and struggled to determine the point of it. The...

Presumably it helps to keep track of the shot timing once everything's dialled in, for the sake of consistency? If the desired output hits at 30 secs and it tastes as it should (not over or under extracted), then having that as a target time makes things easier?

This has been an interesting read, but I had a question: I tend to single dose and change my beans fairly regularly, and judging from some of the comments that would cause issues with the K10f as opposed to the K8. Should I consider that when factoring in which grinder to go for (I've been...

I had a Jura Ena, which I replaced with an HX machine and a Vario about a year ago. Don't miss the lack of hassle a one-touch B2C machine offers one bit - the quality and flavour of the coffee I produce now is far superior to anything the Jura could come up with. Having said that, if you're...

I've found Aeropress tends to favour fruitier coffees (Kenya/ethiopia etc) over Chocolatey ones, but that may be down to personal preference and brew style more than anything.

Not that my opinion is worth a penny, but as somebody who is quite interested in the grinder, I have to say that this thread has made me think twice about putting down an order for one. I don't mind waiting for a product if it's of high quality, but the uncertainty as to when (or even if) I'd be...

Ah, that might be it then, thanks for the tip. I had the adjustment arms all the way down while cleaning, and then ran some coffee through it and adjusted them up while running it. Should I move the arms while the grinder's off?

Maybe I'll have a fiddle with it over the weekend. The thing is, the Vario's top burr just pops out and back in without the need to remove or loosen any screws, and I didn't touch the bottom burr at all, so not sure how it could have become misaligned by removing it for cleaning.

Thanks for the advice - was thinking of recalibrating it, however I suppose it doesn't matter so much as I'm only using it for espresso at the moment, and it seems to go fine enough for my needs even with the changed settings.

Hi all, apologies for the numbskullery of my question, but wanted some advice on something. I cleaned the burrs on my Vario grinder yesterday, and having put them back in find the calibration is way off. Ordinarily the grinder had no problems getting to 1 on the macro grinder setting, now the...
  18. All Grinders & Hand-Grinders
I think I need to do a lot more homework before I feel comfortable enough to buy used. But no, I'm not completely wedded to buying a new machine.

I'm in the same position at the moment - looking at options in the ยฃ500-700 bracket to replace my Vario, which I'm struggling with on lighter roasts. The 65E looks nice, but I'm also thinking of a Mazzer Mini.

FWIW, I've had my Andreja for about 4-5 months, and am very happy with the build quality and the coffee it produces. Don't really have a frame of reference for other machines though, as it replaced a Jura Ena.
