I've also found this a useful reference for the cam greasing procedure, if it's needed.

Thanks, it's running around the 30s mark but on the sour side of things. But I can also see channelling, so puck prep needs work too! Definitely can taste all kinds of things that the Gaggia did not get out of the beans, super happy with the bump up in overall quality. I'm using bottled water...

My MaraX arrived yesterday! ๐Ÿคฉ I agree with others on here who remarked that it looks much better in the flesh than the photos! Thanks to all on here for advice, reviews etc. @DavecUK deserves a mention of course, your efforts are much appreciated! First shot this morning, pleased to say...

Just as follow-up/closure: I didn't have any steel to hand that's "springy" enough, as it turns out. I made a few bits of the correct shape, but once the knob's on, the insert doesn't exert enough force on the spindle to keep it tight. Have ordered the real part from mrbean2cup. Now I hope that...

Agreed with everything @MediumRoastSteam said - the other option is to pull ristrettos. Just stop the shot when it hits 1.5x the weight in instead of 2x. Or go even shorter if you like. In milk-based drinks this still works quite well.

Hi @Tshane, you're right: it's never going to be the God shot, but Classics can produce very enjoyable coffee. If you're a barista then I won't try to tell you how to suck eggs, so to speak. So I'll assume you're weighing the dose, weighing and timing the shot and that all looks sane. Let's also...

Cheers @ratty that's about what I had in mind too. Will give it a go over the weekend.

So, my Classic's steam knob seems to have lost its little metal spring insert. Has anyone on here found a way to replace it e.g. with a piece of shim? Just dreading having to pay ยฃ3.50 postage or something to order a tiny bit of metal!

Can you take a photo looking down into the machine (with the top off, of course)? So we can see where all the wires go in case you've got something connected up wrong. So with the steam switch on, can you flip the brew switch without it tripping the breaker? @El carajillo PWR means "power", I...

Let us know how you get on with it, if upgraditis gets the better of you then the Forum is always here to recommend mods, upgrades or replacements ;)

I can understand the annoyance because you tend to pay a premium for the Italian ones. Just from my personal experience on 3 or 4 Classics: I have opened up and taken apart a few Italian 2000-2010 ones and a Romanian 2014 one and the Romanian was identical to the Italian ones on the inside as...

Hi, are you willing to share the files more widely? Our work has just installed a new 3D printer and they're looking for trial prints. I could ask to print this and report back how it came out with our printer type, model, material, settings etc. Doesn't help answer your original question but...

Different types: as few as possible! If you have an espresso machine, espresso-based drinks are all you should serve. Espresso, americano, flat white/cap/latte, maybe add mocha/hot chocolate in winter time? But 99% of customers just want one of the first three: espresso, americano or "with...

While I agree with @MWJB, I wouldn't want to discourage you from endlessly tinkering and optimising an already working system ๐Ÿ™ƒ Basically the advice would be to look for dark roasts. You can try looking beyond local at first to figure out what it is you like. Is it a particular region/country...

Got your point, agreed ๐Ÿ‘ The lack of paddle is totally holding you back -- you're not realising your full potential! ๐Ÿ˜œ

I'm surprised you put it that bluntly! From what I understood from DaveC's review and James Hoffman's Scace2 test is that the MaraX actually consistently hits the target temp very well. I'm no HX expert but from what I can gather it really can't be lumped in with other HX machines in terms of...

As @HVL87 commented, maybe I'm being daft wanting to do it all at the same time. The "steam kick" after the shot would be the way to do it, I agree. I need to go back and check how that works exactly, how long it takes etc. The other thing I need to check is what happens if you wake the boiler...

Rest assured I have a list! ๐Ÿ˜† I didn't want to hijack a technical topic thread for my personal considerations, but I can give you the summary. Happy to split into a fresh topic if that's more suitable. I think this will all sound very familiar: Current setup: Gaggia Classic with PID + Eureka...
