    Yes, I think that was the problem. Appears to work now correctly seated. Just need to work out how to work the rest of it. Your video very useful.

    Managed to fix it. At least to the point of getting the steam to go off. Machine needed to really cool down completely - less expansion - before the knob fitted on correctly to the point where it does turn the shaft. Will try later to make sure it works OK when back up to temperature.

    Yes - the knob should really only go on one way to fit the profile of the D shaft and grip the flat bit. Have contacted the retailer. Assume they will get back to me tomorrow. Annoying - was looking forward to some coffee. Thanks for your help.

    Just did that. Pushed in fully. No luck. Still doesn't do anything. Just seems to be spinning. When I let the machine cool down, and took the knob off, I could see there was a flat point on the shaft. Hole in the knob has square bottom. But also a small metal bar opposite. Seems to fit...

    Just received a brand new Lelit Elizabeth. Filled it with water and fired it up. Temp reaches 95 and steam starts to come out of the steam wand. Can't find any way to turn that off. Steam knob on the right does nothing. Appears to just be spinning around its shaft without actually doing...

    Been reading and watching more reviews today. Hard to decide if I would care about the smaller, non-standard filters on the Lelit Grace. Suspect if I did ever want to upgrade stuff, I'd know enough by then to go and get another more capable machine. My fear is that would be about a month or...

    https://www.coffeeforums.co.uk/topic/57981-which-lelit-for-a-complete-beginner/?do=embed I started the above earlier this evening. Some answers there to your similar question. I still haven't decided. Grace or Elizabeth? Not sure yet.

    Thanks, all. I've had both the Grace and Elizabeth flip-flopping around in my online baskets all day. Can't seem to find anyone selling the Victoria. And the grinder. I guess I would have no trouble shifting on a Eureka if I ever did get a Niche (or similar).

    The Elizabeth does seem to tick a few boxes. I think maybe the review I read where it seems you can just stick it on a timer to come on in the morning and leave it on all day probably sways it for me somewhat. I'm kind of used to the Nespresso just making me coffee 10 seconds after I decide I...

    Working on where to put the grinder :-} If I get a small enough coffee machine and grinder, I may have room for both. I had considered a manual one to start with. Thanks.

    In what ways easier to use? Less likely to mess things up? There seems to be a general shortage of machines for sale in the UK. I can only see the Grace and Elizabeth for sale on one web site (a sponsor of this site). Not sure of the rules on this forum - is it acceptable to ask for...

    I've been reading up on coffee making on this forum. Drinking a lot of Nespresso, and looking for a new hobby and something to play around with during endless lockdowns. Currently mostly drink "flat white" type coffees, but made with milk heated in the the microwave or Nespresso frother...

    Thanks, everyone. Got lots of options to consider. Very useful info.

    Choices, choices. Maybe too many. But the up-side of reading this forum, it does appear there is a thriving 2nd hand market for decent coffee equipment. Probably can't lose too much in the grand scheme of things if I get anything and decide I'm not really using it and want to move it on.

    Looks like it. Anything under that appears to be a bit crippled. Unless you start modifying old Gaggia Classics. Or so it seems.

    Good points. I usually drink 2 x double espresso pods topped up with half a mug of micorwaved milk. Strong enough to taste the coffee. I had started looking at bean to cup machines, but seem to have got sucked into this site. I really am lazy and maybe won't want to do any cleaning up...

    The lack of bling on the Lelit machines does appeal :-}

    Thanks for the explanations. Not sure I need the steam. I usually microwave the milk. Need to think about that, and if I would ever use it.

    Answered my own question: https://news.bellabarista.co.uk/1zpresso-jx-and-jx-pro-hand-grinders/ Above suggests around 30 seconds grinding. Not too excessive. Probably as fast and no more effort than lugging a large electric grinder out of the cupboard and setting it up and putting it away...

    If I am going to end up at ยฃ1200, how does the Elizabeth compare to something like the Rocket Appartamento (assuming you can find one)? I've started having a look on eBay for a old Gaggia Classic. I guess I can always get most of my outlay back on one of those - unless I go crazy on the bidding.
