Agreed, hence I just took delivery of my shiny new Silvia today! But, there could be an argument that the Graef is easier to use (my old Sunbeam version was).

In respect to the Graef, this looks very similar to a machine I used to have (a number of years ago now) back in Australia sold under the Sunbeam brand. It was a good machine and always made reasonable coffee, but the build quality isn't there to last a long time. I moved on to a second hand...

I started another post about the "Silvia E" in the general forum a week or so ago (probably would have been better placed here, but was interested if this was common across other brands too, and sounds like it is with Gaggia)...

Yes, that's the plan. I have a gift voucher to spend, so get to buy myself something shiny :-) I will probably go ahead with the Silvia despite the changes. For my use I don't think it will be too much of an inconvenience and as has been mentioned, I expect it will be an easy mod to disable if...

Just heard back from Rancilio confirming this information. Sounds like it is an EU regulatory requirement (apparent safety concerns, and for energy efficiency). It has a push button now, rather than the on/off switch, so I guess you just have to push it again after 30min. Thank you EU beaurocrats!

I'm headed there for Christmas and have done some research already. Man vs Machine as recommended by beany seems the most well regarded. Have also earmarked Vits @ Rumfordstrasse 49. Look forward to hearing if anyone else has found any.

Was down there a few weeks ago - fair to say it's not known for quality coffee! The dear girl at the hotel that made my "flat white" was proud of punch of the "froth" she'd managed to get on top of it... I'd recommend you settle in to your hotel room with the barista-in-a-suitcase option.

I used to own the Graef (machine is sold under the Sunbeam brand in Australia, which I owned). It worked well for my requirements switching between filter and espresso (Gaggia Classic). It was good value for money imo. Sometimes they have an issue where you can't grind fine enough for espresso...

Hey, Wondering if anyone uses the Rancilio base set of drawers (with the knock box) might have some feedback on it. I'm considering it as a neat solution to store bits and pieces and hide the knock box, but have heard some reports of noise/vibration through the base. Has anybody come across...
  10. ๐Ÿ‘‹ Introductions ๐Ÿ‘‹
Hi All, I'm new to London this year from Australia and came across your forum (very similar to our CoffeeSnobs.com.au) so have been browsing for a few months. Now looking to get set up here (have been on hand grinder and V60 for months). Probably with a Silvia and looking to partner with a...

Hi All, I'm looking to purchase a Silvia and have just been informed by the retailer that there is a new one that would be supplied, so called the "Silvia E". Apparently it has a couple of changes to meet new EU regulations, so it now goes into standby mode automatically after 30 mins with no...
