i’ve had a few subscriptions over the years. Having had some decent bags from Chipp Coffee recently. I’ve been on and off about signing up for their subscription. You can see the previous subscription coffees on their blog and it looks like an interesting selection. but i think i’m coming down...

Indonesian Solok natural from Django this morning. It is good, tastes like coffee with some dark fruity notes and a little tart and sweet floral note. slight funkiness especially from the ground beans. It needed quite a long rest.

aye, an interesting guy for sure. it’s been going downhill slowly since he bailed out imo.

Dear green are very good, I know them. There was a period when all the decent cafes in Glasgow used their beans and I would often pick up a bag of their goosedubs blend when running short. I might revisit the django 2 x 500g monthly subscription. Hasbean officially ends on 28th of March. It...

I just got an email from them announcing that hasbean will soon be no more. It is merging with Ozone. I have a feeling it won’t be that long before old timers like me with the special deal subscription will go up to the full price, at which point I’ll be cancelling. Sad, it was once the best...

i’ve noticed this over the last few months. still the odd great bag but more dull/lacklustre ones. they sent an email about the 220g bags towards the end of last year and started sending them out a couple of weeks ago. could be the thing that tips me to cancelling my subscription. i think...

a year or so ago you could have got a eureka mignon crono for about 190. but they have changed the burrs and it’s now only suitable for brewed coffee. but, you can buy a new set of burrs for it for less than 25 quid. so it would cost just over 200 in total. for the money the mignon is decent...

don’t know much about the delonghi but if you are using the original basket (pressurised?), a classic will be able to give you better results. you can get very decent coffee out of them. you’d want one that’s been looked after, so would be worth keeping an eye here on the for sale section.

is it still working? the light on the tee switch on mine chucked it last week. i’m planning to go inside and have a look but have not had the time. it’s been okay as long as i leave it switched on long enough before using it. i can tell to a point when it would have come on/off if i listen closely.
  12. Coffee Beans
i had a wee look, to be honest i don’t think i’d expect more than mediocre from them. they don’t give much away, no info about origin, when they were roasted, who roasted them etc.

is the chocolate point from black cat coffee? i’ve just opened a bag of their nicaragua blueberry candy this morning. i’m impressed with it.

aye, i loved it. it’s definitely been one of the standouts from hasbean over the last while. there have been a few, they are on a bit of a roll i think, after a while of nothing really standing out. but for me it was really very chocolatey. if it’s fruity sweetness you are after though, the...

that was a great coffee, eh? if you want to stick with hasbean, i’ve had a few of the current ones from finca argentina which have all been very good. think you’ll be hard pressed finding something similar to the balmaadi though. i’ve had thai coffees with a similar richness and complexity before.

it’s easy to swap this without removing the boiler, i’ve done it myself on my classic. 2 minute job.

if you buy kilos django are good, light/medium and the kilo prices are excellent. often interesting beans too.

the encore won’t grind fine enough for your greek coffee. i used one for espresso for a while and with a bit of modifying it worked (usually, but failed with some beans) but wasn’t ideal. i’ve been using a eureka mignon which can go fine enough for greek coffee and works well enough for me for...

i opened a bag of hasbean’s kenya chinga natural today. it’s really very good. not often you see naturals from kenya.

have you done the stepless mod on your encore? i used one for a while and it worked quite well, but there was the odd bag of beans i couldn’t get it to grind fine enough. eventually i picked up a eureka mignon crono, i’d recommend a mignon but you need to get one with the espresso burrs. the...
