Took the plunge and purchased a new Olympus 75E with the blow up hopper. It's a bit huge, has some retention that needs "blowing up" But,,, the taste is so much better than the Niche. Couldn't be happier with my choice.
  2. All Grinders & Hand-Grinders
Hey Dave, thanks for your comment. Did you feel that one is better than the other when it comes to taste and flavors? Moreover - If you could just put it on a scale from entry level to midrange to top grinders like EK43 and such where would you put it ? OK just sounds like something...

Did anyone try how these two grinders compare head to head by taste ? Thanks.

The answer of that is really simple... That's because I don't live in the UK :)

Well, I am actually really having hard time to let go the workflow of the Niche, hoping that a few more grams of seasoning would take a turn for better results. It's really difficult for me to imagine myself going through all this purging thing again :( . About the burrs in the atom 75, do...

I was looking the last couple of days at the Eureka atom 75 as a flat burr grinder which has less retention than other commercial grinders. While searching for side by side comparisons with the Niche from taste perspective (which I could not find) I saw a post of yours on the Mythos One Clima...

Please explain "shortening the ratio" about channeling, Ill try to explain. My expobar has some kind of "pre-infusion chamber" above the shower screen. It takes about 11-12 seconds for coffee to start dropping. As opposed to 7-8 of regular E61. before getting the Niche, I used to get...

Are you talking about Mythos Clima from Nuova Simonelli ? Slightly north of medium means more light or more dark ? :)
  9. Coffee Accessories
My Expobar is an HX machine. So the temperature is a bit less consistent. however, I do have a thermometer installed on the group and I'm cooling the group head to 88C before I start prepping the puck. This allows the group head to rebound to 90 just in time to start the brewing - which is...

And are you the one who favors flats or conicals ? :)

I see what you're talking about, I quoted Scott Rao's statements not just to say - "look a reputable roaster likes the Niche", But more to ask if seasoning could be an issue. Could it be an issue ? Could it be that 4 more Kgs of grounds would make a difference ? thanks.
  12. Coffee Accessories
I just stumbled on Scott Rao's post on Instagram. I think @Rob1 mentioned it. In his post he is saying three interesting things: 1. "For reference, my normale espressos have EY averaging 21.5% " 2. " This all begs the question: are conicals really not suitable for filter coffee? I believe...

Not using my machine, but I took my grinder to the roaster I'm buying beans from and we tested with his machine and the results were the same. His machine is a commercial one - expobar carat with PID.

The thing is, that the flavor is not just different, the flavor is absent. The shot feels bland. Ive tasted shots from conical burrs before and never had issues with them.
  15. Coffee Accessories
Of course I'm familiar with the beans. I use them all the time. thanks

Hey, I received my new Niche Zero a week ago. replaced from a 1 year old Compak K3 because I could resist the concept of zero retention. however, since I got it I think that I tried 2Kgs of different beans. Mostly medium roasts. I just cannot seem to dial in a tasty shot. If I pull...
