Replacement machine picked up today. Much quieter. So I guess the original just had a faulty fan. Anyway, all sorted now.
  2. Sage Forum
Have spoken to Sage support and sent them a recording of the noise. They have confirmed it is unusual and have recommended to seek an exchange from John Lewis. John Lewis are sending out a replacement to my local Waitrose so I can swap it over. So will be all sorted soon hopefully.

Thanks filthynines. Called Sage. Apparently not possible to adjust the fan speed, but I get the feeling the operative I spoke to did not really know much about the machine. They asked me to send a recording of the noise to pass on to their technical team, which I have done. Will report back...

By sheer coincidence, my 3 year old Piccino is doing the same thing. Probably overdue a service, descale etc anyway so will send it in to Fracino for some attention.

I couldn't agree more. That's not even the slightest bit weird to me. The ritual. The art. The sound. The time. The taste. It's all part of the wonderful world of coffee.
  9. All Grinders & Hand-Grinders
I have the MC2. I have noticed the same with all beans I have tried. Looks a bit like tiny tobacco flakes in the grind. Doesn't seem to be affecting the taste to me so haven't really worried about it.
