Bath local here. I'm trying to work out which Bath cafe yours is from the picture. I see exposed chipboard, maybe Society Cafe?

No, you're right. It occurred to me that writing 'why is the Gaggia Classic not so suitable for this?' wasn't a reflection of what you wrote.

It's way clearer now, thank you all. It'll be two at a time, so the Gaggia Classic sounds perfect. I guess when I have friends or family round they'll clamour for milky drinks, but I don't mind them waiting a bit .

Great replies! Thank you. I'm partial to milk with espresso, but for me to swing the purchase at home I'd have to be making delicious flat whites on a regular basis. So yes, steaming milk is essential. Why is the Gaggia Classic not so suitable for this?

I'm cautious of spending big money on kit and have just been making filter coffee so far: Chemex, Aeropress, V60; good water; great beans; Dualit grinder as suggested by coffeechap. This is all fantastic, and I've got half my office ordering from HasBean, buying Aeropresses and CleverDrippers...

My locals in Bath are: - Colonna and Smalls (6 Chapel Row, Bath) - Society Cafe (4 & 5 Kingsmead Square, Bath, BA1 2AB) Both awesome.

What's the best grinder for ยฃ150? I want one that will go fine enough for espresso, one that is handsome and sturdy. Is it worth seeking out a second-hand machine from a cafe?

I totally tricked her. I gave her a mug of blade grinder Aeropress and said "isn't this nice?" and she said "not really, it's bitter." Then the reveal and a lot of smugness. She acknowledges superiority but I don't think she'll ever really think the flavour is worth the cost... I also meant to...

Hello all, I'm James and coffee is awesome. I love my Aeropress, in fact at least six other people own them because of me. I do not love my tiresomely manual Hario hand-grinder, although when I attach it to an electric drill I do feel some affection towards the thing. My wife insists on using...
