    According to Yorkshire Water's website, the hardness at my post code is 20.1 mg/l calcium. No information about alkalinity though, so I'll get a kit. Alas this is a Waitrose desert area!

    I've just moved from a very hard water area (Oxforshire) to a soft water area (W.Yorkshire). I'm interested in opinions on whether I need to continue to use a Brita water filter, or whether I can refill my machine directly with tap water). It's an ECM Barista HX machine. Many thanks in advance.

    The same thing happened to me, until I started making sure not to tip it too far when flipping it over. so, just turn it over carefully into the vertical position and no further. Now it very rarely happens.

    I'd like to convert the steam and hot water knobs on my ECM Barista to levers. Has anyone done this, or know if it's possible / straightforward? Thanks.

    Agreed. I had a Classic for about 12 years before upgrading to an ECM Barista a couple of years ago, and I lost count of the number of times I had to strip down the solenoid valve to remove blockages. It's an annoyingly awkward procedure!

    I think it's a combination of cheap robusta beans and the contents of any convenient ashtrays!

    I'm outside Oxford, just near the M40 if that's more convenient. Also have the Niche. Used to have a Classic, but upgraded a couple of years ago to an ECM Barista.

    A shame they haven't put a tasting note on their website - a kilo's a bit of a commitment, although it is at a good price. I'm very much enjoying their Chatswood blend at the moment.
