    If you're sold on a gaggia you could post a wanted thread, there's already a few on there but also apparently a few coming up for sale soon. Competition seems tough atm. I think the pandemic has turned lots of people on to the hobby and prices are generally high atm.

    ... although "by far a superior machine" is perhaps a bit subjective. A Kia has far more features for the price than a BMW but many wouldn't say it's by far superior. I love my Bianca btw, not knocking it at all. I, like you, looked at rockets first.

    I have a Bianca and a niche, and, although not cheap, I genuinely believe the Bianca is good value for money and the most feature heavy machine for the price

    I dunno, I'm sure I've seen people using the acaia pearl for espresso on YouTube, just hangs off the front of the drip tray a bit. Admittedly the larger size is why I didn't consider them when I was in the market.

    I time from pump on because my timer is built into the machine, otherwise I would probably time from first drop so I could use the auto timer in the scales. As @allikat said it's whatever suits you, but you would need to adjust your target time accordingly, a 30 second shot from pump on will...
