    Thanks. I tried to remove the metal part above the shower screen (part 59 in the figure you posted), but even though I easily got out the bolts I couldn't move that part at all. I was afraid to use much force, and I'm not sure how I'd get it out to get at the valve.

    Many thanks for your help! I did remove a lot of grime from under the shower screen and then ran diluted vinegar (acetic acid) through the machine for quite a while. At first it only came through the screw hole for the shower screen, but then slowly started to also come through the holes it's...

    Thanks! I'm not sure what the brew valve is, but I should be able to find out. The shower screen I assume is the sieve the water gets pushed through before reaching the coffee. Is that correct?

    I have a Gaggia Espresso Deluxe (from 2002 or so). It has worked beautifully all this time, until now, when I'm not getting any water through to the coffee basket. There is no problem with the steamer, and when I take off the sieve the water has to go through to reach the coffee in the basket...
