Correct. It won't backflush all the way through the system, just the group and a bit of pipe above that. The pressure does build up a bit, but my old DTP rubber backflush disk had a small pressure relief hole in it to keep things, pressure-wise under control. A cup beneath the group would catch...

You can also up the temprature by two degrees, it's in the instruction manual.

It might be worth taking the silicon seal out to make sure everything is absolutely clean up there before replacing it, making sure the indentations on the seal are facing down and that it is pushed compleatly into place. If that doesn't help and if the seal is the correct size, shape and in...

I have been using domestic expresso machines for about forty years and I have yet to feel the need to weigh anything. So sorry, can't help you there. Though I do generally start a new batch of beans by overloading the single portafilter just a little and then watch how it pours, too fast or two...

Have to agree about single being more difficult to pull off, but that's what I mostly do, it just takes a bit more diling in and a bit more dedication. Don't know how long you've had your BE but the grind setting on mine took ages to settle down, now it works just like I had always hoped it...

Check the user manual, you can reprogram the one and two cup buttons, which may very well solve your problem.

I had a DTP for a couple of years and it definately needs backflushing or you'll get a buildup of burnt coffee oild in the works, unlike the more complicated sage machines I don't think it has a three way valve that will let it do a complete backflush, but when the backflushing rubber puck is in...

Just the one hole for it to come out of, the mesh and well tamped grinds make the water push through the whole surface of the porta filter. Descaling every couple of months works for me. but our water is quite soft, so better too much descaling than not enough. Backflushing is seperate from...

Backflush a couple of times and descale the same, it sounds like oils from the beans to me. I've had it on my Barista express once and on one of my previous, and not so eay to clean machies, and cleaning cleaning cleaning is the only way to get rid of it.

I'm going to say the obvious, descale again. Loose scale might be settling as the machine cools and is dislodged/floating around when it warms up and you are tapping around the shower head.

If you haven't descaled recently give that a try.

Someone will no doubt be along to give you step by step intructions, but before that happens make sure your beans are fresh, your grind is finer, and that you are using a single walled basket. I make single shots all the time, it isn't as easy as a double and it is harder to get all the flavour...

There are lots of other ways that scale can spoil your day. Descal reguarly and use filtered ot bottled water. Just my opinion.

Sage Barista Express, I always backflush first and then use half the descaling mixture, leaving the steam wand sitting in a mug of hot water while I find a way to waste twenty minutes, before finishing the job. If I'm not a hundered percent certain everything is clear after that, I do it again.

Yes, what you are doing is blasting all the gunk back through a three way valve and down into the tray. If you take the top of the tray off you can watch it happening. very exciting.

No hole means more cleaning pressure, better backflush, which is exactly what you need to clear out all the coffee bean oil residue.

After four years you'll be very lucky if one descale will do the trick. I'd try descalling a couple more times before getting desperate about its possible demise.

Are you sure it isn't just air. Let it sit quietly for a little while and see if it clears. As long as there is no sediment in the bottom of the cup it's fine.

You almost cerainly need a new silicon seal for the prota filter. From Sage, amazon or ebay.

If you are returning for repair, to Coffee Classics, you only send the basic machine; not even the water tank.
